chocolate strawberry overnight oats ingredient notes:

Gluten-free Rolled Oats: They’re the star of any overnight oats recipe, and for good reason. Rolled oats are packed with fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals, making them a breakfast superfood! I like to use rolled oats because they absorb the milk and other liquids, without becoming mushy in the fridge throughout the week, making them perfect for easy, prep-ahead, on-the-go breakfasts!

Chia Seeds: Our lovely little addition to all my overnight oats recipes, however you can always omit and opt for an additional 1/2 cup of oats. Chia seeds help kick off your day with an additional boost of Omega-3 and fiber, keeping you fuller longer.

Pure Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is well-known in my recipes as my go-to sweetener alternative, however you can always use what you have on hand like honey or coconut sugar. I prefer the nuttiness that maple syrup brings to an overnight oats dish and find that it helps the chia seeds and oats bind to their liquids better than a raw sugar option.

Strawberries: I like to get a mix of both fresh and frozen berries here, the frozen go directly into the oats recipe to be blended, and the fresh are used for serving. Frozen fruit typically works best to maximize the amount of juice from the berries and enhance that strawberry flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened nut milk (or oat milk, skim milk)

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries

  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • pinch kosher salt

  • 2 cups gluten-free rolled oats

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped dairy-free chocolate or mini chocolate chips, plus additional for topping if desired

  • 2 cups plain or vanilla Greek yogurt, for topping (can sub dairy-free yogurt)

Directions

  • Add the milk, strawberries, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt to a blender. Blend on high speed until completely smooth, 20 to 30 seconds. Set aside.
  • Evenly divide the oats (1/2 cup each jar), chia seeds (1 tablespoon each jar), and chocolate (1 tablespoon each jar) between 4 lidded containers and stir to mix.
  • Evenly divide the strawberry milk mixture between the 4 containers. Stir again to mix, ensuring no dry ingredients are stuck on the bottom. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours to set.
  • Before serving, top with 1/2 cup of yogurt and additional chocolate, if desired.

  1. Perfect proportions in this recipe! I added cacao nibs in the morning on top of the yogurt. YUM!!

  2. A knock-out recipe! So easy to make yet also felt gourmet. I added some protein powder to the strawberry milk since my husband and I can’t have greek yogurt. SO good!!

  3. This is perhaps my new breakfast obsession, just in time for warmer weather when I won’t want to cook as much! Added half a scoop of protein powder to the dry ingredients to increase the protein content (with that, my calculations put this meal at 33g of protein!). Also added a little extra almond milk so that the protein addition didn’t mess with the texture, but I don’t think that was totally necessary. Warmed the oats for about 45 seconds (made the chocolate chips nice and gooey) before serving over the yogurt. It was DECADENT. Such an easy breakfast that I have looked forward to eating each day this week.

  4. These are so reliably delicious! I swapped frozen cherries one day when I ran out of strawberries and my 3 year old liked that even better!
